Synopsis
After several years of ethnic and religious conflict, Ambon entered 2004 at peace. The conflict had subsided, and the two communities were rebuilding their lives. But as campaigning started, there was concern that the elections might revive tensions, and reopen old wounds. The filmmakers follow one candidate who hopes to play a part in reconciling Ambon's divided communities. Junaedi, a Muslim, is standing as a candidate for PDI-P, seen in Ambon as a predominantly Christian party. The film examines his attempts to appeal to voters from across the religious divide. The filmmakers return to Ambon shortly after the election as fighting flares once more in the troubled province. Was the violence related to the elections, or just an unhappy reminder that there is still much peacebuilding work to be done?
