To be a good director is not about having pride adhered with the title. Once one's admitt him/herself as a director he/she must carry and responsible for the complexities and heavy work in making film. Not only being capable as a  creative thinker, a director must also has the skill to organize people, knows technical and any others supported knowledge.

Along with the technology growth, the process in making film gets easier. many people said that making film is easy. Everyone could make a film, everybody could be a director, is it true? as easy as that? Yes indeed, it may be as easy as that with few of requirements.

There are few points you have to realise in becoming director, if you'd like to be one.

Making film is something with a process, contain with phases, steps or stages. Generaly speaking, there are three stages in making film; pre production (idea-story, find-collect budget, research, script writing, casting and deciding the tools), Production (during the shoot days) and post production (editing, mixing, distributing). In the end, these stages construct a film.

Director has to understand and knows well about his/her idea in a film. Idea isn't something hard to get, we can see the idea from what stands before us. We can get the idea by seeing something on the street, hearing other's experiences, our fears, books, mass media or many other thing. But, how's the idea's journey from the director's hand to the screen?

Research.
In order to strengthen the idea and the reason why some idea has to be executed as a film, one has done the research. Research is a very important step for director and script writer because the important facts that they got from doing the research will be the base of script they write to be seen real, strong and help them to calculate the expenses and technical aspects they need.

There are 2 steps oftenly done in researching before producing the film, which are research for writing the script or story and research for finishing and adding the story. Research for writing the script mostly more related to the creativyty aspects, director and script writer need this proccess to see other creativity aspect possibilities.

To fulfill the -writing scenario- needs, there are many ways that can be done. The research must cover all related and relevant problems, issues, conflict and/or other related to big theme characters, thus will create great drama on the film. Story like suffer from a loss, death, love, family and other humanity problems able to attrack many people.

Why does research became so important in producing film? Because the information that we got from doing the  research will be the base of our film. From this, we'll be able to decide where this film we're going to make to, where the drama point we'll be put in to. Films need to have the ability to tell a story, stir up the audience's emotion, rise curiousity and/or feeling represented with the film.

After we feel enough in gathering the information, story and other written information, the next step we should do is doing the visual research. The essence of doing the research in this step is to calculate all the possibilites of technical problems that may happen during the shoot days. We need to find the right place to build the story, with the artistic and techincal match. 

And the aim in the next step research is to be able to re-calculate the possibilities of obstacles that may come around.
